So what do you do with 11 second graders on a snowy late-start day? You give them their Christmas presents (a deck of cards and two dice) and a math card game instruction book! We have been playing card games off and on throughout the semester that enhance the math skills we are learning. Today we challenged each other to learn a new game out of the book. It was fun!

Today we learned a new game in math. It was called ZAP. We did some of our MAP tests today and we are going to do more tomorrow and Thursday. Christmas break starts on Friday. We get out at 2:00!

We made Christmas trees. The ornaments all have math problems on them. Mrs. Schlickbernd is graduating! Yeah! Mr. Johnson's class made cards for Mrs. Schlickbernd.

Christmas Craziness!
We have been super busy in second grade the last few weeks! Unfortunately, our blog posts have been fewer and fewer because we've been so busy working on our Christmas projects! This is what we've been working on:
Of course we started with the ever-important letter to Santa Claus. We jazzed ours up a bit this year with a Santa Clause craft, too! I got this great idea from Amy Lemons at Step Into Second Grade. Her Christmas Craze unit is awesome! Here are some pictures:

Next, we heard that Santa was advertising for new reindeer. So we all applied and got the job! Here is a picture of the applications we filled out, plus a picture of us doing our best reindeer impressions. I think Santa was super-impressed:
Last Thursday we got together with Mr. Johnson's class to make our tree ornaments. We used simple paper towel tubes that we cut into narrow strips. The students glued them together then the glitter-fest began! We had glitter from wall-to-wall, but the ornaments turned out great! Here is a snapshot of a few ornaments and our classroom Christmas tree:
Finally, the students presented their Christmas program on December 4. It was wonderful! All of their hard work definitely paid off and the families and friends that came had a great time.
Thanks for checking up on us! We've been having a great time and are looking forward to Christmas!
