Today we started our new topic in math.  We are learning how to subtract two-digit numbers with regrouping.  Now we have to trade a ten for 10 ones when we don't have enough to subtract.  We have an early out on February 9th for parent/teacher conferences.

Today we watched a Book Flix about how the president gets elected.  We thought we should vote to choose a class pet!  Mrs. Schlickbernd said no. :(  We get out of school at 2:00 next Thursday for parent-teacher conferences.  There is no school on Friday.

We started learning about the three branches of government.  They are the judicial branch, the executive branch, and the legislative branch.  In math we learned how to add three 2-digit numbers.  It was funny when we read our new story "Head, Body, Legs" and we made pictures with our body parts.  We had to cut the pictures of our bodies apart and share them with the class!  They look cool!

Today we practiced adding two 2-digit numbers with regrouping.  We had to write problems that were laying down (horizontal) into problems that were standing up (vertical).  Our classmate, Adrianna, moved on Friday.  We miss her a lot!

We are learning how to regroup when we add two-digit numbers.  When there is more than ten in the ones place you have to trade in ten ones and take a tens stick and put it in the tens place.

It was an exciting day back from our long Christmas break!  We are starting a new Writers' Workshop format with the new year as well as a new Math Workshop rotation.  Both changes will allow me one-on-one time with each student!  If you have any questions about our new schedule, please don't hesitate to ask!
