Today we did something new in Math.  We took our test over measuring length on the iPads!  The test was on area, perimeter, centimeters, meters, yards, inches, and feet.  We did our buddy spelling tests during Daily 5.  Mrs. Schlickbernd finished reading The Indian in the Cupboard to us.  We loved that story!  It was funny when Braxton laughed so hard his face turned red!  Next Friday and Monday we don't have school.

Today we had special visitors for the last half hour of the school day.  Mr. Johnson's class came over to partner-read with us!  We reviewed how we sit when we read to someone:  EEKK!  That stands for elbow to elbow, knee to knee.  That way both of us can hear when our partner reads and we can both see the book.  Ever wonder what it sounds like when 20 second graders are reading at the same time?  Take a look and listen to the video.  Music to this teacher's ears! :)

Today in reading we read Nutik, the Wolf Pup with a partner.  Then we used the iPads to visit www.arkive.org to learn more about wolves, since Nutik is a wolf pup.  We could look at pictures of Grey Wolves and watch videos about them.  The wolf pups were funny to watch! We even got to hear what wolves sound like when they howl!  Here are some pictures of us using the iPads.

In math we learned about area.  The area of a shape is how many square units are on the inside of the shape.  We also reviewed perimeter, which is the measurement of the outside of a shape.  We finished our names and measured the perimeter of each letter.  Lunch tomorrow is meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes, wheat roll, and fresh pineapple.

In reading we read the story Nutik, the Wolf Pup.  It is about a boy who takes care of a little wolf pup then gets to keep him for a pet.  It is set in Alaska.  We used the iPads to look up Alaska so we could learn more about our story.  In Math we learned how to measure perimeter.  We are making our names on graph paper then we will measure the perimeter of our names.  For lunch we had beef and noodles, peas, wheat rolls, and peaches.

Go Wayne State Wildcats!

We cheered on our Wayne State College Women's Basketball team as they played in the first round of the Elite 8 tournament in San Antonio, TX.  We listened to the radio and watched a bit online and had a fun afternoon cheering them on.  Unfortunately, the ladies lost, but we are still SO proud of them and their efforts.

At halftime we even did the Interlude dance!  Here's a video of us bouncing around and having fun!

We took a practice test about fractions today.  We practiced our closed-syllable spelling words and read the story "The Ugly Vegetables" in reading.  In Science we made marble tracks and Jonathan put his stuffed puppy under the track to make a bump!  St. Patrick's day is on Saturday, March 17.  Wear green!

In Math we used counters to find fractions of sets.  It was hard at first but got easier when we practiced.  Mrs. Schlickbernd ordered books from Scholastic today.  She said they should be here in a bout a week.  We are really excited!

Today we learned about non-unit fractions.  That's when more than one equal part is colored in.  Some examples are 3/4, 4/5, and 5/6.  Don't forget that book orders are due on Monday, March 12.  There is no school on Friday, March 9.  Tomorrow we are reading at the care center at 9:00.

Today we started to learn about fractions.  We learned that when the top and bottom numbers are the same, then that means it's whole.  In Guidance we learned about feelings - sad, mad, happy, good, angry.  We read Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!  It is by Dr. Seuss.  Then we created a new teacher and told about what he/she teaches.

We had a big flood today in our classroom when the toilet in the boy's bathroom overflowed.  Josie came with the shop vac and saved the day!  Ella had crazy and freaky hair (it was crazy hair day).  Cataleena was on the floor laughing so hard during Science!

Tomorrow we are having birthday cake for Dr. Seuss' birthday!
